Relationships and Sexuality Education

The Welsh Government believes that all young people should have the right to access information that keeps them safe from harm.  This includes learning about healthy relationships, keeping safe including online and being confident to raise issues with responsible adults.  In order to achieve this, Welsh Government introduced the Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) as mandatory in September 2022.  RSE plays a vital role in enhancing learners' well-being and safety.  RSE involves the delivery of lessons that aim to prepare all pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life, taking note of their moral, spiritual, cultural, mental and physical development at school and in the world.  Through RSE, learners will be supported to explore and discuss information and values about relationships and sexuality that they are already exposed to and often struggle to navigate for themselves.

At Ty'n Y Wern the health and well-being of our pupils is a priority and in order to support us in delivering a high quality and mindful approach to Health and Well-being we will be using the Jigsaw scheme to support us in planning our learning experiences and in delivering the RSE curriculum.  Jigsaw is a whole school approach and brings together PSE and RSE development as part of the Health and Well-being area of learning experience.  As a whole school approach, Jigsaw allows children to develop the qualities and attributes our children need to thrive as individuals, family members and members of society.  At Ty'n Y Wern Primary School we will deliver lessons that we feel are age appropriate and only that we feel are suitable for your children.  We want to work closely with our families and welcome any questions or concerns that you may have.  You can discuss any concerns with your child's class teacher, Mrs S Goodliffe (Head Teacher) or Mrs R Webber (RSE Curriculum lead).
